NEW!
SINGLE-USE DISINFECTING CAP by Neuma Innovations

Neuma Innovations™, creator of the original Neuma Clamp™ that deters and detects central line abuse by IVDU (intravenous drug using) patients, announces the development of a new central line disinfecting cap that is tamper-evident and prevents cap re-use to improve compliance.

Picture
BACKGROUND
Disinfecting caps are an established component of IV therapy workflows because they help prevent costly central line blood infections. The Neuma Cap
™ is a revolutionary disinfecting cap that features important differentiating benefits:

• The Neuma Cap physically cannot be used more than once, effectively eliminating non-compliance.

• The truly single-use Neuma Cap deters and detects IVDU (Intravenous Drug Using) patients attempting to use their lines to self-inject illicit drugs.

PROBLEM
• 28% of IV nurses surveyed confessed that they use the same disinfecting cap more than once, resulting in blood infections and CLABSI reports.

• 5% of hospitals experience monthly deaths due to patients using their lines to “shoot up”. Many more have to treat deep infections and replace lines when a patient contaminates the line.

• Concerns about patients abusing their lines motivates doctors to extend IVDU patients’ time in the hospital to receive infusions, thus occupying beds and costing hospitals millions of dollars.

SOLUTION
Because the Neuma Cap cannot be used more than once, compliance is almost certain and IVDU patients cannot remove a cap, self-inject, and then put the same cap back on. Either the patient is prevented from abusing the line, or the removed cap indicates signs of tampering.

How to use the Neuma Innovations Clamp
A central line port and Neuma Cap.
How to use the Neuma Innovations Clamp
The Neuma Cap screws onto the line,
disinfects the port, and protects the line from tampering by IVDU patients.

PICC and Central Line Protection using the Neuma Clamp
When the Neuma Cap is unscrewed, the red piston locks in place and the cap can't be screwed on again. The caregiver can't reuse the cap, and the IVDU patient can't secretly abuse the line.
